3/18/25 Shelob's Lair

I decided it was time for another Lord of the Rings booknook. This time I chose the encounter between Samwise Gamgee and Shelob the giant spider. Shelob has stung Frodo and wrapped him up tight in her webbing. Sam arrives on scene holding up the vial of Galadriel and Sting, Frodo's dropped sword that he picked up.

I ordered the characters from Games Workshop. They are excellently detailed metal miniatures. The case is plywood and the rock faces are carved spray-on expanded foam. The webbing is the cheap Halloween stuff that I added later.

These are the beautiful Games Workshop models

I added some painted static grass to Shelob's back to give her a more furry look

Spray-on foam from an aerosol can

A painting of the Tower of Cirith Ungol is the backdrop

I was trying to simulate split webbing across the cave entrance

Update October: I acquired some Halloween spider webbing
I wish I'd had this when I was doing the cave entrance
