09/21/25 The Shining Elevator Scene

I am in no way a horror movie or book fan. I avoid them at all cost, which is difficult to do when my wife and daughters love them.

My youngest has been bugging me to do another horror nook ever since I made the IT Pennywise nook for her a while back. She has been suggesting The Shining as a theme. I watched that movie with friends when it came out, and hated it! I didn't want to watch it again, no way! So I went to YouTube and found three possibilities: The hallway twin scene, the old lady bathroom scene, or the bloody elevator scene. The least difficult scene, because I lacked figures and my sculpting abilities are less than adequate, was the elevator.

The sign is blurry, sorry. It says Welcome to The Overlook Hotel

Glue setting

The walls are 1/4" foam core, plastered with a knockdown pattern

Chairs are foam core with paper pattern apholstry

Sorry for no radiator construction photos. They are made from popsicle sticks

I made a mockup wall and elevator doors with logos to squeeze the paintable silicone "blood" out of the door, swirling it up with a toothpick to simulate the turbulance in the movie

It turned out pretty good

The ceiling

Another darned difficult chandelier

The front is carved from XPS foam
